Officials Accreditation Scheme

The Little Athletics Association of NSW has adopted the Australian Little Athletics Officials Accreditation Scheme for training of is officials. The Australian Sports Commission, under the National Officiating Program, endorses this scheme.

The scheme has four levels of gradings commencing at Centre level with D Grade, progressing through to C Grade for Zone level, and B and A grades for State and National level.

Gradings are assessed on practical experience as well as theory papers, with time frames governing the advancement to higher grades.

Officials who successfully complete the exams are issued with an accreditation card outlining the event/s and the grade obtained. Upon receipt of exam results at the LAANSW office, these accreditation cards will be printed, signed and returned to the Zone Co-ordinator for distribution..

The grades are as follows:-

D Grade qualifies participants to become "Chief Judge" at Centre level and assist in that specific event at Zone Championships. All disciplines are covered at this level except Track Umpires. These are multiple choice question exam papers. The pass mark for the theory paper is 75%. These papers should be marked by the Zone Co-ordinator or appointee.

When the multiple choice exam paper has been completed and passed, participants must officiate at least two (2) days/nights competition, under the supervision of a C Grade Official OR an appointee of the Zone Co-ordinator. Verification Forms are available from the Zone Co-ordinator.

The participant may do a multiple of D Grade Exams.

C Grade qualifies participants to "chief" at Zone and assist in these events at Region. The pass mark for the theory paper is 95%. This is a multiple choice question exam paper. These papers are marked by the Zone Co-ordinator or their appointee.

All disciplines are covered at this level.

When the multiple choice exam paper has been completed and passed, participants must officiate at least two (2) days/nights competition under the supervision of a B Grade Official, or an experienced appointee of the Zone Co-ordinator.

The participant may attempt only three (3) C Grade exams per season.

B Grade qualifies participants to progress to Region/State level. To attempt the B Grade qualification, participants should have gained at least two (2) seasons experience on the specific event. The pass mark for the theory paper is 80%. These papers are a one-hour (1hr) written exam, undertaken in the company of an Officer of the Association. The papers are to be checked by the Zone Co-ordinator and forwarded to the Officials Director, who will appoint two (2) independent markers.

When the written exam has been completed and passed, the Officials Director will appoint Officials to evaluate the participant at two (2) days competition at Zone, Region or State Championships.
